More good news for the UK Biomass Energy Market
Drax Power station in Selby, North Yorkshire is to convert a 4th Turbine to Biomass energy.
The UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has said that..."Biomass Conversions play an important role in decarbonising the National Grid".
With this sentiment in Mind the UK Governmnet has increased the support for existing biomass power stations by increasing the amount of Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROC's) for existing biomass plants under the Renewable Obligation Scheme (RO).
In light of this new Government support for biomass energy, Drax power has being testing biomass (using woodpellets) at unit 4 for much of last summer with the intention of bringing this 4th Turbine burning biomass on stream in 2018.
"We welcome the Governments support for further sustainable biomass generation at Drax, which will allow us to accelerate the removal of Coal from the electricity system, and replacing it with flexible low-carbon renewable electricity", Drax Chief Executive Will Gardiner said.
